Jackie Hivert
marketing professor, program coordinator of Business Marketing and Social Media Marketing
University: Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning
Location: Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
Jackie Hivert received her Undergrad from The University of Waterloo in Recreation and Leisure Studies and her MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University.
Her focus with Conestoga has been to both weave more of a technology focus into the Marketing program as well as set up a Graduate Certificate program in Social Media Marketing. The Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario region has a need for these skills as it is known for generating a lot of Canadian technology startups.
Prior to joining Conestoga, Jackie spent time in the wireless space in new product development, as well as working with a mobile marketing agency in Toronto, helping top tier brands add mobile elements to their marketing plans. While in Toronto, She was named by Marketing Magazine in their annual “Ones To Watch” issue as one of Canada’s top marketers under the age of 30. After joining Conestoga, Jackie still worked with brands to help them build their connections with their customers using the latest and greatest technology through her own company.
We asked Hivert a few questions. Her answers are below:
WHAT STUKENT COURSEWARE HAVE YOU USED?
I have been using Mimic Pro in the Managing Online Marketing class that runs as a part of our Business Administration Marketing Program. Once students complete seven weeks of Mimic Pro, we move on to the Bing Adwords assignment. The pairing of these assignments in an upper-year class has been fantastic.
WHAT TEACHING TIPS WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER PROFESSORS?
The students got their feet wet and practiced skills in Mimic Pro and then learned how to use those skills with a live client in Bing. I set up our class as an “agency” during the Bing assignment and host agency meetings where the student groups all share their learnings to date for their respective clients.
This sharing of learning as well as the ability to learn from seven groups of experience has proven to be a great asset to the students. You will find photos of students doing this within my Twitter feed.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND TALENTS?
When I am not on campus, you can always find me enjoying family time with my husband and our two boys. We are big hockey fans all around and also love spending time on Lake Huron with our extended family. I also cherish my time as a volunteer with the Make-A-Wish Foundation as a Wish Coordinator. It is a privilege to be able to work with this outstanding organization and make children’s wishes come true, and I am proud to have been doing that for 20 years.
