With 25 years in entrepreneurship and commission-based financial services sales, she consistently received the Gold Award or higher from the Georgia Mortgage Bankers Association for superior sales volume. Dr. Hain excelled in customer loyalty as well as sales performance, ranking high in the corporation’s sales volume at the large bank where she worked.

Dr. Hain is engaged in her community with a 19-year membership in Rotary International with 100% attendance. She supports the Girl Scout Council of Greater Atlanta and, at a global level, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.

Dr. Hain has two daughters, a son-in-law, and a grandson with whom she spends all her available time.

We asked Joie a few questions. Her answers are below.

WHAT STUKENT COURSEWARE HAVE YOU USED?

At Clayton State University, we are in our second year of several digital marketing-focused degrees. At the graduate level, we have an MBA with a digital marketing concentration. We also have a digital marketing graduate certificate. For our undergraduates, we have a BBA in marketing with a digital marketing concentration, plus a digital marketing minor that a non-business major can obtain.

I have two classes where I use Stukent materials. The first is digital marketing, and I use the Digital Marketing Essentials e-textbook and the Mimic Pro simulation. The second class where I use Stukent materials is social media marketing. I use the Essentials of Social Media Marketing e-textbook and the Mimic Social simulation. Last spring when I taught social media marketing, I added the 3-round trial of Mimic Analytics.

All of these classes are taught in an online option.

WHAT TEACHING TIPS WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER PROFESSORS?

As many professors do, I add various industry certificates to the course requirements as an introduction for the students as well as for support in job applications. At the graduate level, I include classic industry literature.  For example, in our first class of the digital marketing series, the students read “How to Win Friends and Influence People in the Digital Age,” and in the digital marketing class, the graduate students read “Scientific Advertising” by Claude Hopkins, originally published in 1923. As opportunities develop, we work with firms, typically non-profits, on specific areas of support.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND TALENTS?

As a “late-in-life” doctoral student, working full time while obtaining my doctorate didn’t provide much spare time. Now that I have the great fortune to transition from industry into academia, I am able to spend more time with my adult children, my grandson, my two dogs, and (as a long time Rotarian) volunteering in my community. One of my favorite Rotary programs offered only in Georgia is the Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) where we bring college students from other countries to study in our universities with local host families. GRSP is an international program to broaden the understanding of world peace through people. I also enjoy unwinding with a good movie or fiction book and love to travel!
