About the author
Danaka Porter, M.Eng., Ph.D, PMP
Danaka Porter holds a Master of Engineering from MIT in systems and supply chain — a discipline centered on algorithm design and process optimization. As a partner at iota consulting, she works in supply chain, project management, and data analytics across heavy manufacturing and technology industries. Her work includes ensuring Navy and Coast Guard vessels are properly equipped, developing predictive algorithms for oil and gas companies, and optimizing global mining supply chains.
Danaka is also a sessional lecturer at the Dhillon School of Business, where she teaches courses in supply chain management and project management. She cofounded and serves as COO of VitaNova Tech, a fertility technology company that uses algorithms to match surrogates and egg donors with intended parents.
Now that she has completed her Ph.D. in cardiology at the Cumming School of Medicine, Danaka uses machine learning to help predict sudden cardiac death and serves on the Training and Education Committee for the Cardiac Arrhythmia Network of Canada. Outside of work, she serves on the board of motionball, fosters animals for her local Humane Society, mentors students, and supports MIT admissions as an educational counselor.
