KERRIE’S CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

I started my career with an internship at the University of Texas in Austin, where I was fortunate to intern at GSD&M during my senior year. I learned so much from my time there; afterward, I worked at several advertising agencies and marketing firms. I even spent 22 years helping to produce a high school football television show on FOX Sports SW! My husband is head of content at an agency, and he and I have our own company. We produce, edit, and create freelance content for clients.

I started teaching as my children headed to college and am now in my fifth year. I love helping my students learn about the world of marketing and advertising, and I hope to help them decide what to major in or choose a career after high school.

WHICH STUKENT COURSEWARE AND SIMULATIONS HAVE YOU USED?

I’ve used the Mimic Social simulation the whole time I’ve been teaching and truly love it. The simulation reinforces the material we are learning in class in a hands-on, engaging way. I took a leap of faith and introduced the Mimic Advertising simulation to my high school students last year … and they loved it! It was a great addition to my advertising class, and I will use it again this year. I’m so excited about the new Sports Marketing simulation, too! I will be using it with my classes this year, and I know I will love it just as much as the others!

WHAT TIPS WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER EDUCATORS?

Encourage your students to learn as much as possible in high school — it will save them time and money when they get to college! As a mom currently paying for two college degrees (Texas State University and the University of Arkansas), the time and money saved are well worth it!

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HOBBIES AND TALENTS?

I love volunteering! I’ve volunteered with my daughters in many different ways and enjoy giving back to my community. I also spend time with my husband, daughters, friends, and family by playing games and traveling. I’m a movie buff and love going to live music and concerts. And I’m a huge UT football (and girls’ volleyball) fan … Hook ‘em Horns!
