“A good teacher, like a good entertainer, first must hold his audience’s attention, then he can teach his lesson.” — John Henrik Clarke

“I try to find ways to continually improve the educational experience for students … and for me! I tinker. I look at what is new, what is coming, what’s been done, and try to find the formula that works. I get closer every term, but then the target moves and I start over … that’s the fun in it!

“While there are always exceptions, students generally describe me as a firm (tough?), fair, fun classroom leader. I effectively manage my time and my priorities, striving to make a difference in students’ lives and holding them accountable for their performance. I’ve designed, developed, delivered, and evaluated college business courses, product presentations, and corporate training sessions. I also coauthored Business Communication for Success, the first Canadian e-textbook for Flat World Knowledge (2012).”

We asked Moman a few questions. His answers are below:

STUKENT COURSEWARE

I’ve used MIMIC Pro for three years now in our MRKT-3018 E-marketing Term 3 course.

[I] just started using MIMIC Social this Term 4 for MRKT-3015 Integrated Marketing Communications. Students are diving in without having taken a social media course; first rounds are due in about 3-4 weeks. Last term most completed the Buhi Bags social media audit that you good folks have posted, and I believe that gave them a good sense of what to consider.

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING TEACHING TIPS

· In a four-hour week, I generally lecture/have classroom discussions for two hours on a given chapter. The other two hours are student presentations or in-class written assignments or MIMIC time.

· I roll a die a few times as a randomizer to determine who gets asked the first question of the class. That student then gets to determine which directions I take the following questions (right or left, toward the front or the back)

· I spend a ton of time prepping my classes, using memes and videos galore. I’m a big believer in the effectiveness of humour in the classroom.

· I give out Stukent t-shirts to the winners of the simulations.

HOBBIES AND TALENTS

Talents? Well, I make a fantastic martini and am a devout Ravenclaw who lives with a couple of Hufflepuffs.
