Professor of the Month: Marlene Frisbee

At Stukent, our mission is to help educators help students help the world. We build innovative courseware and simulations that help educators prepare their students for real-world industries. Our solutions save educators valuable time, are easy to implement in the classroom, and give students hands-on experience with the concepts they are learning.

Each month, Stukent highlights a standout higher education teacher who not only uses our products in the classroom but exemplifies our core values, too.

Marlene Frisbee is Stukent’s Professor of the Month for March 2022!

STACY’S CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

I fell in love with marketing while working for an international marketing company. After a few years, however, that company moved back to Italy. So, I went to work for a law firm as a paralegal. While there, I went to college to earn my bachelor’s degree in business administration from Montreat College in North Carolina. When that law partner retired, I accepted a position with the City of Asheville as Minimum Housing Code Manager and completed my master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis on marketing at Montreat College.

In 2005, I started teaching as an adjunct professor at Asheville-Buncombe Tech. In 2011, I accepted a full-time position in the business administration department. I became chair of that department in 2015. I teach all the marketing and business courses offered at the college, and I generally have about 15 – 25 adjuncts teaching for me during each semester. Accounting, business administration, marketing, and economics are all under the business administration department’s umbrella. I am also an advisor for the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) chapter on our campus.

I believe my experience in the marketing and business world brings a “real-life” perspective to our students. I enjoy sharing my experiences.

WHAT STUKENT COURSEWARE HAVE YOU USED?

As our college — like all others around the world — deals with offering more online courses, I find that I am constantly searching for interactive textbooks and software to enhance the student’s learning experience. I want our students to have practical, hands-on applications before they move into the workforce. Stukent offers our students this application in their courseware and Mimic simulations.

I have used “Modern Marketing Principles” and its accompanying simulation for my principles of marketing courses; “Essentials of Social Media Marketing” for my social media marketing courses; and “Advertising: Selling in Today’s World” with its simulation for my advertising and sales promotion course.

WHAT TIPS WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER TEACHERS?

1. Keep your classes as interactive as possible.

2. Offer application projects for students to utilize what they are learning.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND TALENTS?

I have been a runner since college. I enjoy participating in 5K and 10K events. I also enjoy kayaking rivers and lakes across the U.S.

I am involved in charity organizations in my community, including serving on boards and volunteering with Girls on the Run of WNC, Women Build (Habitat for Humanity), American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, and chairing a local women’s book club.

Congratulations, Marlene! Thank you for everything you do for your students!
