As a lifetime educator, Jen Slavik has experience in both K-12 and higher education as well as corporate training. Throughout her career, she’s been blessed with the unique opportunity to teach students in the elementary classroom and their parents in the college classroom. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and her master’s from the University of Florida. Currently, Jen holds the role of marketing professor at Danville Area Community College (DACC). She teaches a variety of courses including Principles of Marketing, Principles of Advertising, Digital Marketing, Marketing Analytics, Social Media Management, Consumer Behavior — and more! Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, gardening, and exercising.
We asked Jen a few questions. Her answers are below.
WHAT STUKENT COURSEWARE HAVE YOU USED?
I have used the Marketing Principles Bundle, Digital Marketing Essentials Bundle, Essentials of Social Media Marketing Bundle, and “Consumer Behavior” courseware.
WHAT TEACHING TIPS WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER PROFESSORS?
I absolutely LOVE incorporating Stukent books and simulations into my courses. The simulations provide students real-world experience without real-world consequences, and the books offer relevant material with lifetime access. It really is a win-win situation! As marketers, we know the industry is always evolving. Prepping my students to be resourceful and adaptable to change is a priority. Those entering the program are required to create a digital resource guide through Padlet; the guide is referenced in each course and maintained throughout the entire program. Graduates leave with organized material containing links to their favorite resources and examples. The Stukent account is a great first addition to this!
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND TALENTS?
I enjoy yoga and hiking. I recently mastered the handstand push-up, which I’m pretty proud of!
