Additionally, her role as a board member allows her to work with companies to understand their markets and capitalize on their core competencies in the ever-changing market conditions. Dr. Matthews’ GALLUP CliftonStrengths are Achiever, Maximizer, Positivity, Learner, and Discipline.

We asked Dr. Matthews a few questions. Her answers are below:

WHAT STUKENT COURSEWARE HAVE YOU USED?

I began using the “Digital Marketing Essentials” online book and the Mimic Pro simulation in 2013. When I began using this book, it was for a digital marketing course. Now, I’ve changed institutions but continue to use this same book and the Mimic Pro simulation for my promotion courses.

WHAT TEACHING TIPS WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER PROFESSORS?

Since I’m using this for promotion and that isn’t solely focused on digital, I supplement the content with general promotional content prior to getting into this book. I cover that content in the first two weeks of the course to allow students some time to purchase the book online, so there are no excuses for hitting deadlines. Since there are only 13 chapters, this also works well with the semester. Finally, besides finishing the simulation, I also require students to become Google Ads certified as part of their final grade.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND TALENTS?

In order to carry on a family tradition, I began making homemade wine years ago. My grandfather used to make wine and I wanted to give it a try. I haven’t made a batch in several years, but a fun fact is that I made a batch while pregnant with my youngest daughter. The label had her picture and stated, “Aged to Perfection” with all her birth announcement information. The hardest part of this was not drinking the wine during the bottling process since I had to do that while still expecting!
