Dr. Denny McCorkle is a professor of marketing at the University of Northern Colorado’s Monfort College of Business where he teaches digital marketing, social media marketing, marketing strategies, and marketing management (MBA). 

His education includes a DBA from the University of Memphis, an MBA from Louisiana Tech University, and a BBA from Southern Arkansas University.

He is published in the “Journal of Marketing,” “Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management,” “Journal of Marketing Education,” “Marketing Education Review,” “Journal of Advertising Education,” “Journal of Direct Marketing,” and other publications.

HubSpot Academy (in Cambridge, Mass.) has recognized Denny as a Top Digital Marketing Professor and his college awarded him the MCB Teacher of the Year award for the development of his course in social media marketing. Marketing EDGE/DMEF (in New York, N.Y.) has recognized his contributions with an Outstanding Direct Marketing Educator Award, a Distinguished Teaching Award, and eight Collegiate Echo Leader awards. He has also received a national Freedoms Foundation Award for his creative teaching of direct marketing.

Denny lives in Greeley, Colo., with his wife and daughter. He loves to travel and has taught social media marketing in the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Italy.

We asked Denny a few questions. His answers are below:


As a new professor to Stukent, I will use one of the textbooks for my social media marketing course in the fall semester. What has moved me to the bright side of Stukent textbooks is that they provide excellent supporting digital resources and are updated several times a year (while other competing textbooks are on a two-to-three-year update cycle). Current content and supplements are a necessity for teaching any digital or social media marketing course.


In my social media marketing course, I guide students to use real-world, real-time social media for personal branding and job search. With multiple assignments, my students learn to define, develop, manage, and apply marketing strategies in their use of Twitter, LinkedIn, WordPress blogging, Facebook business pages, Instagram business pages, and YouTube channels or Pinterest business pages. They also earn several professional certifications from HubSpot Academy.


My favorite hobby and passion work skills are creating and writing content (beyond the required academic writing). While I have blogged for many years, I am now focused on completing a book tentatively titled “Level Up Your LinkedIn” and another titled “Aha Lessons.” 

My 9-year-old daughter is teaching me how to use iMovie (yes, she has a YouTube channel), so my next move is to create more video content for my own social media and marketing courses.
