We asked Dina a few questions. Her answers are below.

WHAT STUKENT COURSEWARE HAVE YOU USED?

I have been using Mimic Social for my Social Media and the Brand course, and Mimic Pro for my Digital Marketing class.  In addition to simulations, and depending on the course, I have the students really dive into the assignments such as the Landing Page Optimization, SEMRush Keyword, and Google Analytics.

WHAT TEACHING TIPS WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER PROFESSORS?

I always make a point to do the first round of Mimic Social together and explain my rationale as to why I am posting a particular content piece a certain way.  Because I once managed a social media account for a Fortune 100 company and for my own company, I speak to my experience and how closely the simulation matches the job function.  I’ve noticed many students don’t really know what a social media marketing manager does and it’s bit of a wakeup call for them, but a good one.  Also, my students work with small businesses throughout the semester, so their learning has provided such a tremendous impact during the pandemic.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND TALENTS?

I am a big all-around sports fan–I love March Madness. I’m a budding photographer. Interesting fact: when I travel, you will not see me in any of my pictures.  I’ve always provided service and mentorship to those in need; some organizations include Black Girls Code and MircoMentor. Pre-Covid I got the opportunity to speak to many High Schools around New York City and talk about my life experiences.

I am a first-time author of Lizzie & McKenzie’s Fabulous Adventures, currently available on Amazon. The story is based on the travel experiences of myself and my mom, but I made them eight-year-old girls. Lizzie & McKenzie travel the world to find the Seven Crystals of Sisterhood. While on their quest they’ll meet new friends and eventually form the Global Girls Squad. Lizzie & McKenzie will battle the Same Glam Goddess who wants to make all the little girls of the world look the same. The story infuses timeless lessons and the core values of friendship, leadership and the importance of diversity.  I am working on the 2nd book of the series as we speak.  I even dressed up as my character for New York Comic Con and became a Getty Image. That was unreal!!
