Professor Kinda Wilson teaches marketing at Oklahoma State University and has consulted for national corporations. She has helped one company streamline management efficiency for 650 stores. Wilson also worked as marketing and PR director for a career tech system, overseeing all marketing and advertising for thirty school districts.
Professor Wilson was recently awarded the 2017 Excellence in Teaching/Training Award at the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) National Conference in Indianapolis. She was nominated for the award by the Spears School Online Learning office staff. They worked with her over the past year on the development of her online undergraduate and graduate level Innovative Marketing Social Media Strategies courses. The online learning staff provided video production, instructional design and animation support for the course and nomination.

I’m currently helping to create curriculum for Stukent for the Principles of Marketing class. I’m excited to be teaming up with Stukent for this and to use the curriculum next year.
SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING TEACHING TIPS
I like to have my students actually become co-creators of the content during class. For instance, in one of my classes, student teams create short commercials for a company. Then, we view those commercials in class and the students critique each other’s work, give feedback, and choose winners. This not only gives the students a chance to apply a concept and receive feedback, but then they also are able to play the role of an instructor. I also try to bring in industry experts to tell their personal experiences when possible.
One thing I have found very useful in my large, interactive classes is to plan the schedule to where class goes at a pretty fast, tight pace. Last year in my class of 250, we had everything scheduled in ten and fifteen minute blocks of time for activities. I found that any time we had lapses of time between activities, we would quickly lose the attention of students.

I love to travel on road trips or overseas when I can. A few years ago, my best friend and I had trouble finding resources for budget-friendly travel to Europe, so we started a travel website to help females travel overseas. Although we don’t devote as much time to it now, we still try to take a group to travel or backpack overseas once a year. I gain so much insight from the new experiences – it’s exciting! Some of my favorite places so far have been Cinque Terre, Italy, and Gimmelwald, Switzerland.
I also love music, and I’ve worked as a choir and music director in the past.
