WHAT MARKETERS NEED TO KNOW TO PREPARE FOR 2023

Topic: Digital Marketing | Marketing Strategy

Key Point: Making sure the gears are turning for the 2022 holiday shopping season is top of the list for most marketers right now, but come December 26, that focus will be on 2023. What will the new year bring?

MarTech offers several predictions: a global recession is looming (if not already here), segmentation is a survival key, customer data programs (CDPs) are essential, and it’s time to audit the tech stack.

Best of all, though, this article doesn’t just announce the problems facing digital marketers; it provides tips on how to overcome them. The bottom line: “Lower consumer spending could finally force us to become smarter marketers, not just ‘more’ marketers.”

GOOGLE’S NEW AD INSIGHTS FEATURE: RESEARCH TIPS

Topic: Online Advertising

Key Point: You no longer need to resort to third-party tools to perform competitive ad text research. A new Google Ads feature lets you get the job done right from Google Search. It’s easy, it’s helpful, and it’s a time-saver for sure.

That’s not all you’ll get in this Search Engine Journal article, though. You’ll also gather seven recommended steps for analyzing paid search ad copy. All told, this is a quick read, a simple procedure, and a huge help for checking up on the competition and maybe even modeling some of the things they’re doing right.

TWITTER BLUE VERIFIED BADGES NO LONGER FREE

Topic: Social Media Marketing

Key Point: The coveted blue “verified” badge shows Twitter users the account is authentic. The days of free verification are over, though. The new head honcho at Twitter, Elon Musk, says he intends to monetize the platform to make it less dependent on ad revenue. That verified badge will now cost $7.99 per month. But, tweeted Musk, the price will be adjusted by “country proportionate to purchasing power parity.”

Other changes include no warnings prior to an account being suspended and anyone impersonating another without stating it is parody will be permanently suspended. It’s a sight to behold: Many advertisers and users are turning their backs on Twitter, while others are embracing it like never before. Which side will win? Watch and see. Here’s the article.

GOOGLE HANGOUTS IS OFFICIALLY GONE

Topic: Digital Marketing Platforms

Key Point: Google Hangouts is now Google Chat. You’ll get all the same features, but there’s something crucial you won’t get: your Hangouts history. If you want to keep that data, you must download and save it by January 1, 2023.

How do you do that? Well, that’s exactly what this article is all about. You’ll also get the lowdown on why Google made the switch.

GOOGLE BUSINESS PROFILES BUG CAUSING REVIEWS TO DISAPPEAR

Topic: Digital Marketing Reviews

Key Point: How would it affect a business that’s been gathering Google Business Profile reviews for years (and is benefitting greatly from all those stars) if they lost all their reviews overnight? Well, that crisis is now making many business owners and managers cringe. It’s real.

What’s the issue? Apparently, the application of suggested edits in turn creates a new customer identification number (CID). The good news is that the reviews are still available — but on the old CID, not the new one.

Here’s what to do to protect your Google Business Profile reviews: Capture and document your old CID information. How to do that? Read this.
